The Soundview neighborhood of the Bronx might soon see a major development coming its way as Camber Property Group awaits approval for a six-building expansion to Stevenson Commons.
Stevenson Commons, a mixed-income residential complex, is located on the city block defined by White Plains Road, Lafayette Avenue, Seward Avenue and Thieriot Avenue. The recently-proposed development is expected to add a significant number of senior residences to the complex.
If the expansion is approved, WXY Architecture + Urban Planning is slated to be the chosen architectural firm in charge of the project’s design.
WXY Architecture + Urban Planning has created blueprints that incorporate a total of 735 additional residential units across the six-building development. In addition to senior housing, these units include a combination of affordable and conventional housing. Parking garages, community facilities and building amenity spaces are also incorporated in the proposed expansion.
Stevenson Commons currently consists of nine residential buildings with a total of 948 affordable rental units. The current property also includes retail spaces, a health center, surface parking and private green areas.
Camber Property Group has obtained an Environmental Assessment Statement and Positive Declaration from New York City’s Department of City Planning. Before construction begins, they will need approval to increase residential volume and low-income housing. Camber Property Group is also required to present a Draft Environmental Impact Statement to the public.
Camber Property Group states that their plans are in line with New York City’s 10-year plan for affordable and senior housing development.
